The Horse of Jenin Tickets - London
'In Arabic, the horse is a symbol of freedom. But to us, this horse is so much more. This horse is us.’
Constructed from the rubble and debris of a major invasion, the Horse of Jenin is a sculpture that became a constant presence in Alaa’s life growing up. It stood proudly in the heart of the city centre for two decades, symbolising hope and resistance in Occupied Palestine.
That is, until 29 October 2023, when an Israeli bulldozer entered the city, and ripped the sculpture down from its place — and from its people.
Now, Alaa is left to wonder… What actually happened to the horse?
Playing a limited season at the Bush Theatre in London, and constructed from fragments of memories of Palestinian comedian and actor Alaa Shehada, The Horse of Jenin is an ode to the power of imagination and the resilience it can bring.
